....I tried to dye my hair.
Well, kind of. Erin and I had the brilliant idea to dye the tips of our hair blue and red for the game. We didn't want to pay for permanent color and heard a rumor that food coloring works. Paddy even said it did, his friend has done it before. Since my hair is darker, I had to try and bleach the ends of my hair so the color would actually show. Off we went to KMart (yes, it exists in New Zealand) and bought a product called Ultra Lightener, which was supposed to dye medium brown hair super blonde. False advertizing. 100%. I bleached the ends twice over, both times terrified that I would end up looking like a train wreck from the 90s. I shouldn't have worried. After 2 hours of bleach, the ends were only slightly lighter and tinted red. After all that work, Erin and I mixed up a food coloring/shampoo concoction and got to work. Erin tried to do it on her own, and the result was the colors blending together and the fear of ending with a purple mass at the end of her hair. I made Paddy help me, it took 45 minutes, I looked like a Christmas tree with all the foil in my hair, and my tips would end up being the perfect blend of blue and red patriotism. After sitting at the table eating dinner and dripping red, blue and in Erin's case purple for about an hour, the process was complete. However, after the first rinse all the color disappeared. Epic fail. Instead of the glorious color radiating from our hair, we were left with the same old brown we started with. After 5 hours of work, all I achieved was an uneven reddish, sun kissed tone at the ends of my hair. But hey, it's better than frosted tips.
